The prosecution in the Senate impeachment court is intensifying its case against Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio, with a key congressman arguing that her recent remarks against President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., and his family demonstrated "capability" rather than a mere threat.
Lanao del Sur Rep. Ziaur-Rahman A. Adiong, who serves as the spokesperson for the House prosecution panel, made the statement in a recent interview. He argued that the Vice-President's comments, which were made during a virtual briefing in November 2024, went beyond typical threats and instead implied a pre-existing agreement to harm the President, First Lady Marie Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.
Adiong emphasized that the prosecution's position is based on the Vice-President's own claims of an alleged arrangement with another person to kill the President and his family if she were assassinated. He noted that this was not a fleeting threat, but rather a statement that implied a concrete plan had been put in place.
The congressman's comments come as the Senate impeachment court continues to hear evidence against the Vice-President, who is facing charges related to her remarks.
Adiong's statement highlights the gravity of the allegations against the Vice-President, and suggests that the prosecution is taking a serious view of her comments.
