UMVA has learned that chaos erupted in New York City as jubilant fans took to the streets to celebrate the New York Knicks' historic NBA championship win.
The victory, which marks the Knicks' first championship since 1973, sparked widespread celebrations across the city, with thousands of fans flooding Times Square and other areas. However, the festivities took a dark turn as gunshots and fires broke out, with a school bus being set ablaze.
According to information obtained by UMVA, police intervened around 2:30 am, an hour after the 'school bus carnage' started. The New York Police Department reported that several people were arrested, but numbers have not yet been released.
As fans celebrated, some clashed with police, smashed windshields, and climbed atop lightpoles and other structures. The celebrations were not limited to New York, with thousands also gathering in Boston, Atlanta, Florida, and California to support teams competing in the World Cup.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the celebrations were marred by incidents of violence and vandalism, with football fans in town for the World Cup witnessing burning vehicles and hearing gunshots around 42nd Street and Broadway.
Celebrities, including Ben Stiller, Timothee Chalamet, Taylor Swift, and ASAP Rocky, were in attendance at the Knicks game, while singer Jennifer Lopez joined the celebrations from her living room, sharing a clip of herself cheering at the TV screen.
The Knicks' victory came as the World Cup was underway, with matches being held at MetLife Stadium, renamed 'New York-New Jersey Stadium' for the competition. However, the tournament has also seen its share of drama, with England players having football boots and other key equipment stolen just days ahead of their World Cup opener.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that two arrests have been made in connection with the theft of equipment from vehicles transferring gear to the England team's base in Kansas City.
