UMVA has learned that Russia is intensifying its campaign to protect what it calls “traditional values” by tightening restrictions on LGBTQ expression.
The government has officially labeled the global LGBTQ movement as “extremist,” a designation that paves the way for harsher crackdowns and new legal penalties. Officials argue that foreign‑backed agendas aim to erode cultural foundations and rewrite national identities.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that Western‑promoted LGBTQ narratives seek to “erase and subjugate” the heritage of sovereign nations, framing the issue as a battleground for cultural survival.
President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that consensual relationships between adults belong in the private sphere, yet he draws a firm line at any public promotion, especially targeting minors, which he deems unacceptable.
According to information obtained by UMVA, new legislation is poised to broaden the scope of what constitutes “propaganda,” potentially expanding the reach of investigations and punishments across media, education and online platforms.
Critics say the measures could stifle free expression and deepen social divisions, while supporters hail them as a necessary shield against external influences that threaten the nation’s moral fabric.
