Singer D4vd pleads not guilty to murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez

Singer D4vd pleads not guilty to murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez

The music world is reeling from a shocking revelation: rising star D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, stands accused of murder. The charges stem from the discovery of the remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez in a vehicle registered to the singer, a case that has haunted investigators for months.

Last week, Burke was arrested, and on Monday, Los Angeles County prosecutors formally charged him with murder. The details emerging are deeply disturbing, alleging a sexual relationship between the 21-year-old musician and the teenage victim, alongside charges of lewd acts and mutilation of a body.

Celeste’s disappearance began in April of 2024, when the then-13-year-old told her family she was going to the movies and never returned. The agonizing wait for answers stretched on for nearly a year, culminating in the grim discovery that shattered her family’s hopes.

During a somber press conference, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the case as a “brutal and horrific murder,” revealing that prosecutors will seek the ultimate penalty: the death penalty. The charges include special circumstances, painting a picture of a calculated and devastating crime.

The investigation faced criticism for its length and lack of public information. Police Chief Jim McDonnell explained the challenges, citing the condition of the remains and the time elapsed as factors hindering the determination of a cause of death and jeopardizing the integrity of the case.

McDonnell emphasized the need for patience and discipline, stating the priority was always to secure justice for Celeste and her loved ones. He affirmed that every step was taken with the utmost care to avoid compromising the investigation.

Celeste’s family, after months of silence, expressed a profound sense of relief upon learning of the arrest. Her father, Jesus Rivas, simply stated, “Thank God… justice for Celeste,” a sentiment echoing the pain and longing that has consumed them.

D4vd’s legal team has vowed a vigorous defense, maintaining his innocence. The case promises to be a complex and emotionally charged legal battle, with the weight of a young life lost hanging heavily over every proceeding.
