The annual A Capitol Fourth concert in Washington, D.C. is set to proceed as planned, despite the sweltering heat wave that has settled over the nation's capital. The concert, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., will feature performances by Patti LaBelle, Alan Jackson, Chicago, Kool & the Gang, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Joint Armed Forces Chorus.
Due to the extreme heat, public entry to the concert will be delayed until 7 p.m. Officials urge attendees to take precautions, particularly those who are vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Guests are advised to bring plenty of water and hydrate regularly, with non-glass water bottles allowed inside the venue.
The National Weather Service has issued extreme heat alerts across more than two dozen states, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees in many metropolitan areas. In Washington, forecasters predict "feels like" temperatures could approach 110 degrees during the day before easing after sunset.
