UMVA has learned that Roma have revived their interest in Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, with the Italian club reportedly believing a deal could be done for around €20m-€25m.
This development comes as Zirkzee's future at Old Trafford appears increasingly uncertain, with the Dutch forward struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League. Despite his impressive form in Serie A with Bologna, his United spell has never truly taken off, with only two goals and one assist from 17 substitute appearances and five starts.
Roma's interest in Zirkzee makes sense, given his experience and success in Italian football. The club could utilize him in a flexible role, possibly as a left-sided attacking midfielder or second striker, which could potentially revive his career. Zirkzee's technical quality, link-up play, and intelligence made him one of Serie A's most interesting forwards during his time at Bologna.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Roma had previously considered signing Zirkzee in January but were deterred by United's managerial situation and desire to reassess their plans. However, the Italian club's interest has clearly not wavered, and they may now be poised to make a move for the forward.
A potential sale of Zirkzee by United would represent a significant loss on their original transfer fee of €42m. However, if Manchester United manager Michael Carrick does not see Zirkzee as a major part of his plans, the club may decide to move him on and reinvest the funds elsewhere.
