The latest Democrat candidate for US Senate from Maine, Troy Jackson, has been at the center of controversy following a recent revelation about his personal life.
According to investigative reports, Jackson married his second cousin, Lana M. Pelletier, and the two have two adult sons together, Chace and Camden.
The two met in high school at Kent High School in Allegash, Maine, a small town with a population of 240.
Genealogical records confirm that Jackson and Pelletier share the same great-grandparents, Thomas Pelletier and Edith Thibodeau, making them second cousins by blood.
The connection between Jackson's family and his wife's family is not a distant one, as the two families have a common ancestor in the 19th century.
Following the revelation, Jackson was asked for dating advice in rural Allegash, where he suggested that he had found the right person in his wife.
