UMVA has learned that Norway's national football team has taken an unconventional approach to their World Cup campaign, flying in not just their star players, but also the country's top chefs to ensure they're fuelled with the best Norwegian ingredients.
The Norwegians, led by Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, have a reputation for being a dark horse in the tournament, and they're leaving no stone unturned in their quest for success. With a history of struggling in the World Cup, this is just their fourth time qualifying for the main stages, and their first since 1998.
According to information obtained by UMVA, two of Norway's top chefs, Aron Espeland and Eirik Tufte, have joined the team to prepare meals that showcase the country's culinary expertise. Espeland, a Culinary Olympics winner with Norway in 2020, emphasized the importance of using genuine Norwegian ingredients, which are being flown in from back home.
The chefs are taking their job seriously, with Espeland revealing that they'll be bringing over 300 kilos of red fish and 116kg of brown cheese to make the team feel more at home. "Being able to stand in the US and say, 'I actually know the person who picks these tomatoes or the person who caught this halibut,' is really cool," he said.
Norway's World Cup campaign begins on June 16 against Iraq, and they'll be looking to make a statement. Haaland, who scored 16 goals in eight World Cup qualification matches, has high ambitions for the team, saying, "I want to develop the whole federation and everything around it to become a big football nation. That is my goal."
The team has landed in Greensboro, North Carolina, where they'll be based and preparing for their pre-tournament friendly against Morocco on Sunday, June 7. With their unique approach to team preparation, Norway could just prove to be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.
