The 34-year-old Eriksen fell to the floor during a friendly match against Ukraine on Sunday, sparking fears for his health. The incident occurred five years after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a European Championship match, which left him with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) to protect his heart.
Eriksen took to Instagram to reassure fans that his current situation is 'different' from the one in 2021, and that his ICD had done its job in protecting him. He expressed gratitude to the medical team and doctors who have cared for him over the years, saying their expertise had helped him recover.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Eriksen's teammates were shaken by the incident, but he has already started his recovery and is focusing on spending time with his family. He joked that his plans now include going on vacation and playing football with his children.
The match was abandoned due to Eriksen's medical emergency, but Denmark manager Brian Riemer praised the Ukrainian team's sportsmanship and cooperation during the situation. The two teams came together to show support for Eriksen, with Riemer saying it was a testament to the Ukrainian team's class.
