A chilling new video has surfaced, revealing the moments before and during the tragic shooting at the ancient Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico. The footage, captured by a Texas family, shows the gunman calmly establishing his position amongst unsuspecting tourists.
The nearly four-minute clip begins with the shooter, masked and carrying a backpack concealing his weapon, blending into the crowd atop the historic pyramid. He moves with a disturbing normalcy, seemingly observing the visitors before selecting a secluded spot.
As the family recording the scene begins to descend, the gunman sets down his backpack and produces a firearm. Moments later, the serenity is shattered by a volley of gunfire, sending tourists scrambling for safety down the pyramid’s steep steps.
Panic erupts as visitors shout for others to take cover. “Get down, get down, get down!” a voice urgently cries out in the video, capturing the raw terror of the unfolding event. The scene quickly descends into chaos as people desperately seek refuge.
The gunman has been identified as 27-year-old Julio Cesar Jasso Ramirez. He fatally shot a 29-year-old Canadian woman and injured thirteen others, some while attempting to flee the barrage of bullets.
Police arrived on the scene within minutes, only to find Ramirez had taken his own life. The investigation quickly uncovered a disturbing pattern of obsession, revealing a fascination with Adolf Hitler and the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
Investigators discovered a chilling detail at the scene: an AI-generated image depicting Ramirez alongside Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the perpetrators of the Columbine shooting. Fifty-eight unused rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
Joel Torres and Yazmin Salcedo, the Texas couple who captured the harrowing footage, were visiting the pyramids with their family. Torres recounted the speed of the attack, stating the shooting began “less than a minute” after the gunman settled into position.
Salcedo described the disorienting fear, unable to pinpoint the source of the gunfire amidst the chaos. “All we could hear is shots after shots after shot,” she explained, “and we just didn’t know where these shots were going to.”
The tragedy has prompted increased security measures at tourist sites throughout Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum has called for enhanced protections to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, acknowledging the vulnerability of these popular destinations.
The body of the Canadian woman killed has been returned to her family. The investigation continues to unravel the motives behind this senseless act of violence, leaving a community and a nation in mourning.
The shooting occurred on a date laden with grim significance: the 27th anniversary of the Columbine massacre and Adolf Hitler’s birthday, further highlighting the gunman’s disturbing ideological influences.
