A decision has been made to remove Frank Stronach's name from the Aurora Recreation Complex in response to his recent conviction of sex assault and indecent assault.
Aurora mayor Tom Mrakas issued a statement condemning sexual violence and recognizing its profound and lasting impact on survivors, their families, and communities.
Following discussions with Magna regarding facility naming rights, the town will remove the Stronach name from the complex.
Aurora is a town located 50 km north of Toronto.
Stronach, 93, was found guilty of two of five charges by a Superior Court judge on June 19.
He was convicted of indecent assault and sexual assault relating to two different women and his sentencing has been delayed until September 17.
Stronach also faces another sexual assault trial next year in Newmarket, which borders Aurora to the north.
The town will now begin the process of finding a new naming rights partner for its recreation facility.
The indecent assault charge involved a complainant who was a legal secretary and dates back to an incident in the fall of 1977.
The sexual assault charge involved a complainant who was a cocktail waitress at the time of the incident, happening sometime between January 4, 1983, and December 31, 1984.
The trial initially included 12 charges from seven complainants, but prosecutors decided to proceed with seven charges from four complainants.
The charges stemmed from alleged incidents between 1977 and 1990 and none of the women were known to each other.
