UMVA has learned that Oliver Stark, the charismatic star of the firefighter drama, has once again stepped forward in bold support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Since 2018, Stark has embodied Evan “Buck” Buckley, a character whose journey into bisexuality began in season seven, and the actor’s advocacy has become a defining part of his public persona.
During a Dream It fan convention on May 24, Stark was asked why he feels compelled to champion LGBTQ+ causes. “I do it because I support,” he declared, “and I simply think, ‘Get with the f programme,’ you know?”
He added that his commitment stems from a desire to inspire others to do what is right, saying, “If more people said, ‘Let me just do this thing that’s right,’ then we’d probably be at a nicer place.” He is unapologetically proud of portraying a queer character.
Stark noted that queer stories are more plentiful now than before, yet he believes Buck’s coming‑out arc is profoundly unique because it unfolds in his thirties rather than adolescence.
“People have come up to me and said, ‘Hey, that’s cool, that’s unique to me,’ and oftentimes the stories you see are teenage coming‑out narratives,” he observed, emphasizing the importance of diverse representation.
He expressed genuine enthusiasm for the storyline, stating, “I love that we were able to do something a little bit different with that, and maybe help somebody feel represented to that degree.”
Stark’s passion for his craft and his community shines through, making him a true advocate both on and off the screen.
