The Department of Tourism has named Pinoy pop group BINI as one of its official tourism ambassadors.
The move comes after the group's historic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California earlier this year.
Tourism Secretary Maria Bernardita "Dita" Angara-Mathay noted that each member of the group represents a province or town in the Philippines and is knowledgeable about its charming features.
The group's role as tourism ambassadors is a recognition of their contribution to promoting the country's culture through music on the global stage.
Assistant Secretary Ren V. Sapitan stated that the government should recognize the pride that BINI is pushing for, and that the group's influence in bringing viewers from abroad is significant.
As ambassadors, BINI will be engaged in regional and provincial events to boost the local tourism economy amid the ongoing oil crisis.
The Department of Tourism plans to highlight other Filipino talents, including P-pop boyband SB19 and professional tennis player Alex Eala, who are also making the country proud.
BINI is known as the "Nation's Girl Group" and has released several hit songs, including "Pantropiko," "Salamin, Salamin," "Cherry On Top," "Blink Twice," and "Karera."
The group's members are Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena.
