UMVA has learned that the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority is set to produce a new batch of globally competitive bartending graduates, driven by a surge in demand both locally and overseas.
The demand for skilled bartenders has skyrocketed, with the hospitality and tourism sector boasting one of the highest employment rates. According to a technical trainer and assessor, this has led to a flurry of calls from hotels and bars seeking TESDA graduates.
TESDA's Waitering National Certificate II program has the highest enrollment rate across Metro Manila, closely followed by the Bartending NCII. The Bartending NCII program covers a range of competencies, including bar operations, cocktail preparation, and basic wine service.
Last year, TESDA produced between 75 to 100 bartending graduates, with an impressive employment rate of almost 100%. These graduates can expect to earn a salary of between P40,000 and P80,000 in Metro Manila, with many going on to work as professional bartenders.
While TESDA encourages graduates to work in the Philippines for at least two years, many opt to work abroad, with popular destinations including cruise ships, Dubai, Switzerland, and Greece. The agency has partnered with a leading multinational alcoholic beverage company to strengthen its bartending program and align students with the evolving demands of hospitality establishments.
The partnership will provide students with internationally recognized training modules, equipping them with global mixology trends, spirits education, and modern bar management principles. The curriculum also includes business modules, such as customer engagement and responsible drinking principles.
TESDA aims to ensure that its graduates stay up-to-date and globally competitive, with a focus on strengthening workforce development initiatives and expanding access to quality training opportunities. The goal is to equip more Filipinos with the skills needed to succeed in the industry, whether in the Philippines or abroad.
