UMVA has learned that a harrowing confrontation between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and a fleeing suspect in New Jersey took a shocking turn on Monday morning, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and a suspect on the run.
The intense drama unfolded shortly after 9:30 a.m. along Route 72 in Manahawkin, where federal immigration agents were attempting to apprehend a suspect, with the Stafford Township Police Department providing critical support to secure the scene and manage traffic flow.
In a brazen move, the suspect allegedly struck an ICE agent with their vehicle while trying to flee, prompting the agent to open fire at the fleeing car, which was reportedly hit by gunfire, in a desperate bid to protect themselves from the out-of-control vehicle.
The suspect managed to escape, driving away from the scene, and remained at large as of Monday afternoon, with authorities scrambling to piece together the events and determine the extent of the agent's injuries, as well as whether the suspect was wounded during the exchange of gunfire.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that ICE is leading the investigation, with local police playing a limited role in supporting the operation, ensuring public safety and traffic control, while emphasizing that there is no known threat to the community, and urging residents to seek alternate routes due to expected road closures.
The area was cordoned off for several hours, with police working to secure the scene and restore order, as the search for the suspect continues, and authorities work tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding this explosive confrontation.
