Gogglebox star Shaun Malone is currently recovering in a hospital after undergoing brain surgery. The 31-year-old armchair expert, known for his appearances on the Channel 4 show, revealed his health update through a post on social media. He shared an aerial photo of his head with staples down the middle where the incision was made, captioning it: 'Heatwave is a terrible time to be stuck in hospital until Friday. Brain surgery is deffo not the highlight of my year.'
Shaun's health scare comes as a result of complications from a life-threatening infection he suffered as a teenager. The reality star has previously spoken about how he battled a severe infection that left him with brain damage. He fell into a coma for weeks after suffering swelling in the brain, which started as a case of sinusitis.
In 2010, Shaun contracted sinusitis, which led to an infection that traveled to his brain. He explained that his brain started swelling and his skull began to crush it, causing him to collapse at home. Shaun's mother took him to the emergency room, where he was told he had a less than 10 per cent chance of survival.
Shaun spent several weeks in a coma and was eventually diagnosed with brain damage. He revealed that the injury affected his memory and left him with limited mobility on his left side. Shaun's sister has pictures of him struggling to eat after the ordeal. However, he credits joining the Manchester United Foundation to play disability football for turning things around for him.
Shaun's health struggles have had a significant impact on his mental health, causing him to withdraw from social interactions. However, he has spoken about how joining the Manchester United Foundation helped him regain his independence and confidence.
