The rumor mill is spinning again, and this time it's about a young star who could be the missing piece for a Premier League giant. Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool midfielder, has dropped a tantalizing hint: the Reds need a new left-back, and Newcastle's Lewis Hall fits the bill perfectly.
Liverpool already spent big last summer to bring in Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, and he's not showing any signs of leaving. But here's the twist: club legend Andy Robertson is reportedly on his way out at the end of the season, with a free transfer to Spurs looming. That leaves a gaping hole on the left flank.
Murphy doesn't mince words. He's a massive fan of Hall, calling the 21-year-old England international a "wonderful player" and a "brilliant footballer." He raves about Hall's one-on-one defending, saying it's top-tier. The problem? Newcastle probably doesn't want to sell him.
But here's where it gets juicy. Newcastle faces a financial squeeze. With no Champions League football next season, they're staring down Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) demands. Murphy suggests that if Liverpool can exploit that situation, they absolutely should—even if it means paying a premium for Hall.
"It's probably unlikely you're going to get him out," Murphy admits, pointing out that Sandro Tonali or Anthony Gordon might be the ones sacrificed instead. But if Newcastle has to sell, Hall is a steal: young, Premier League-proven, and one of the Magpies' brightest lights this season.
The plot thickens. Murphy doesn't just see Hall as Robertson's replacement—he believes Liverpool needs a new *first-choice* left-back. Kerkez, he argues, is a trier who has improved, but is he truly at the level required to win league titles and Champions League trophies? Murphy's blunt answer: no.

Murphy thinks Liverpool will give Frimpong another year alongside Bradley, but the left side is the real priority.
