The FBI arrested seven men, including 19-year-old Tycen Proper, on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack at the White House during a UFC fight. Proper, an Ohio native, is accused of building a stockpile of weapons, ammunition, and other supplies.
According to authorities, Proper spent $3,000 of his graduation money on armor, vests, a shotgun, and extra ammunition. The FBI first learned about the attack plot on June 10 and worked with local authorities to make the arrests.
A report from the Knox County Sheriff's Office indicates that Proper purchased a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun with an American flag painted over it, along with ammunition, on June 5. He also bought an AR-15 5.56 caliber rifle on January 13.
Proper allegedly stockpiled the two firearms, along with three plate carriers loaded with ballistic plates, a tactical bump helmet, and extensive medical trauma gear, including tourniquets and emergency bandages. The supplies were stored at a family member's home.
Proper's father told law enforcement that his son had quit his job to meet up with people he met online, who conducted "missions" and "recons" together. Proper's mother alerted authorities over the alleged firearm purchases and his online activity.
She told a 911 dispatcher that they had taken all the guns and ammo out of Proper's room and removed them from their property. "He just came inside, and he's probably going to discover it's not in his room," she said.
