UMVA has learned that Allan Finnegan, a 59-year-old Baptist minister, has reached the semi-finals on a popular British talent show, captivating audiences with his stand-up comedy skills.
As his life came to a close, Finnegan's family played his favourite music, including Pink Floyd's iconic song "Wish You Were Here", in his final moments, providing comfort and solace.
His loved ones described him as "amazing, caring, and funny", a testament to the profound impact he had on those around him, and have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to supporters who helped grant him precious extra time with his family and new grandson.
Finnegan's remarkable journey began with a diagnosis of eye and liver cancer, and was initially given just 12 months to live at the start of 2024; however, his determination and the generosity of others allowed him to spend more time with his loved ones.
The cancer, which started with tumours in both eyes, was identified as ocular melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects approximately 850 people in the UK each year; despite treatment, the cancer had spread, and Finnegan faced a high risk of recurrence due to a specific genetic factor.
