A former Manchester United star has identified a potential world-class signing for the club, with the player's talents on full display at the recent World Cup.
Dwight Yorke, a member of United's treble-winning squad in 1999, believes Ayyoub Bouaddi, a Moroccan wonderkid, has the potential to become the best midfielder in the world.
Bouaddi impressed at the World Cup, and Yorke thinks the 19-year-old's skills would be worth the hefty price tag of £85 million, which is reportedly United's asking price for his signature.
Yorke, who has been impressed by United's transfer dealings this summer, believes Bouaddi is the type of player who could take the team to the next level and justify the massive investment.
"If you're spending £100 million on a player, you want to be signing the midfield equivalent of Kylian Mbappe," Yorke said. "Then you pay whatever and your money disappears, but you know what you're going to get."
Yorke thinks Bouaddi has the potential to be that player, citing his impressive performances at the World Cup as evidence.
"Bouaddi from Morocco, the young kid, he is that player," Yorke said. "I watched him closely at this World Cup, and he looked remarkable in games like against Brazil."
With United's transfer window set to close on September 1, Yorke hopes to see the club sign at least four or five new recruits to strengthen the squad, including a new number nine and a central defender to replace Casemiro.
Yorke is not convinced by some of the other targets being linked with United, including Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who he thinks is not impressive enough to justify the transfer fee.
"I don't know about Bruno Guimaraes," Yorke said. "I'm not sure he has been that impressive. I watched him play for Brazil at the World Cup, and he's not convinced me."
Yorke thinks Bouaddi would be a much better fit for United, and would bring the level of quality that the club needs to compete with the best teams in the Premier League.
"Give me Bouaddi any day of the week ahead of those guys," Yorke said. "He's the type of player who could make us superior."
