UMVA has learned that a significant operation by York Regional Police has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old Georgina man and the seizure of a firearm and controlled substances, marking a major breakthrough in a drug trafficking investigation dubbed Project Winnie.
The investigation, which began in April 2026, focused on a suspect allegedly involved in trafficking controlled substances in Georgina and surrounding areas. Police identified two residences associated with the suspect, one in Georgina and one in Barrie, and executed search warrants at these locations, as well as two vehicles linked to the suspect.
During the operation, the suspect, identified as Poosanan Uthayakumar, was taken into custody and charged with six firearm-related offenses, two trafficking-related charges, and one count each of possession of proceeds of crime and failure to comply with probation. Notably, Uthayakumar was on probation and subject to a weapons prohibition order at the time of the offense.
In a separate incident, York Regional Police have charged two Toronto males, aged 18 and 15, in connection with a Vaughan home invasion. The suspects allegedly forced their way into a residence, confronted the homeowners, and threatened them with a firearm while demanding cash, jewelry, and the keys to the victim's Lamborghini.
The suspects, Javaunie Thomas, 18, and a 15-year-old male, face multiple charges, including firearm-related offenses and robbery with a firearm. Both suspects were bound by judicial release orders for unrelated offenses at the time of the incident, and three more suspects remain outstanding.
Meanwhile, Toronto Police are seeking information about a suspect involved in a robbery and aggravated assault. The male suspect, described as 25-30 years old, 6 feet tall, and 180-190 pounds, approached a victim who was unloading their vehicle and, unprovoked, assaulted the victim and stole their property.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police are also requesting dashcam or security camera footage related to a personal injury collision in which a 55-year-old woman was struck by a Toyota SUV while attempting to walk across a crosswalk.
