UMVA has learned that Liverpool has initiated talks with RB Leipzig to sign 19-year-old sensation Yan Diomande, a move that could shake up the transfer market this summer.
The young winger had a breakout season in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists, earning him the division's prestigious Rookie of the Season award. His impressive performances have caught the attention of top clubs, including Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Liverpool has made the first move by starting discussions with RB Leipzig, but the German club is demanding a hefty transfer fee of at least €130 million (£112.4m). This could be a stumbling block for the Reds, who are looking to strengthen their squad in multiple positions.
Liverpool's interest in Diomande is driven by their need to replace Mohamed Salah, who departed at the end of last season. Diomande primarily plays on the right flank but can also operate on the opposite wing, making him a versatile target for the Reds.
RB Leipzig's managing director for sport, Marcel Schafer, has insisted that the club remains in a strong position regarding Diomande's future, with the winger still having four years remaining on his contract and no release clause. Schafer emphasized that they want to keep Diomande, and he sees his future at Leipzig for now.
Diomande himself has expressed admiration for Paris Saint-Germain, revealing that he would welcome the chance to join the French giants this summer. His father is a PSG supporter, and Diomande has long been a fan of the team.
As Liverpool navigates the transfer market, they have also finalized the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new coach, following Arne Slot's departure. The 43-year-old coach was spotted at Liverpool's training ground, ready to take on his new role.
