UNITED'S £18M REVOLUTION: Prepare for the NEXT GLOBAL SUPERSTAR!

UNITED'S £18M REVOLUTION: Prepare for the NEXT GLOBAL SUPERSTAR!

Tony Coton, a key scout for Manchester United, firmly believes Senne Lammens possesses the extraordinary potential to become a truly world-class goalkeeper. His assessment isn’t based on recent form alone, but on years of careful observation and a deep understanding of what separates good keepers from the elite.

Lammens arrived at Old Trafford last summer in an £18million transfer from Royal Antwerp, a move that came after the club decided against pursuing a deal for a more established name. Despite having only 88 senior appearances under his belt, he quickly seized the opportunity to become the first-choice keeper, thriving under both Ruben Amorim and now Michal Carrick.

His impact has been immediate and significant. Lammens’ commanding presence in the air and exceptional shot-stopping ability have been instrumental in United’s climb to the Premier League’s top four, solidifying his position as a vital component of the team’s success.

Coton, the driving force behind bringing Lammens to the club, emphasizes the goalkeeper’s unique qualities. “He’s got all the tools and the mental capacity to cope with it all, as we’ve seen,” Coton revealed. “From a goalkeeping point of view, I don’t want to compare him to anyone else. He is Senne Lammens and he is himself.”

The scout’s confidence is unwavering. He believes that continued dedication and refinement of his skills will unlock Lammens’ full potential. “If he keeps working as hard as he is doing and we get those little things tidied up, he can be one of the world’s best. I’m sure he can.”

However, Lammens wasn’t a sudden discovery. Coton’s interest dates back to 2019, when he first observed the young keeper playing for Brugge in a Belgium under-17s match. While recognizing his raw talent, Coton understood it wasn’t yet the right time for a move.

He continued to monitor Lammens’ development, tracking his progress through Brugge and then Antwerp. The question wasn’t *if* he was ready, but *when* the moment was right to make a move. “When he broke in [at Antwerp], it was just a matter of how long do you leave it?” Coton explained.

The decision to sign him last summer was the culmination of extensive scouting and due diligence. Presenting the opportunity to Lammens, knowing he had attracted attention from numerous European clubs, required demonstrating why United was the ideal next step in his career.

Coton was particularly impressed by Lammens’ unwavering focus during their conversations. He observed a remarkable concentration, a complete engagement that signaled a player ready for the demands of the Premier League. “He was just locked in,” Coton recalled, “locked onto me.”

When asked about Lammens’ immediate readiness for the first team, Coton didn’t hesitate. “I said, ‘Yes. Straight away. I’ve got no qualms about him going into the team if needed.’” His conviction proved accurate, as Lammens quickly established himself as a cornerstone of United’s success.
