TORONTO UNDER SIEGE: Brutal Storms Incoming!

TORONTO UNDER SIEGE: Brutal Storms Incoming!

March is refusing to relinquish its grip, ending with the same ferocious energy it began with. Thunderstorms and persistent rain are forecast to continue into Tuesday morning, a final, dramatic flourish before the calendar turns.

Intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms may linger into the early afternoon, though their reach will diminish. Don’t be fooled by the brief respite, however, as another wave of stormy weather is poised to sweep across the region later in the day.

A powerful cold front is barreling towards Southern Ontario, bringing with it a significant thunderstorm threat. This isn’t just ordinary storm activity; conditions are ripe for some of these thunderstorms to become severe.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain has some shoppers running for cover in Ajax Ontario on Tuesday June 29, 2021.

The potential for danger is real. Residents in the GTA, Hamilton, Niagara, London, and Windsor could experience torrential downpours, damaging wind gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, and hail the size of toonies.

Beyond the immediate impact of the storms, the risk of flash flooding is elevated. Low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable, and roads may become inundated with water. Creeks and rivers could overflow, causing washouts and further disruption.

The force of the storms could also bring down trees, and with them, vital power lines. Prepare for potential outages and exercise extreme caution during and after the passage of these severe weather systems.

The recent warmth, a fleeting taste of spring, is about to be replaced by a return to winter’s chill. This complex storm system will deliver a chaotic mix of snow, ice, rain, and thunderstorms through Wednesday morning.

While temperatures will rebound somewhat after Wednesday and Thursday, the forecast remains unpredictable. Expect a rollercoaster of milder days interspersed with periods of below-seasonal cold as April unfolds.

The turbulent weather isn’t confined to Tuesday. Two more rounds of stormy conditions are anticipated later this week, continuing the pattern of fluctuating temperatures and varied precipitation.

The first system arrives on Thursday, bringing another wave of rain to Southern Ontario. Then, on Saturday, a second system will move in, once again unleashing a mixed bag of weather challenges.
