UMVA has learned that Vice President JD Vance made a striking appearance on "The View" on Tuesday, sitting down with the show's co-hosts to discuss his new book, "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith."
The visit was not just about promoting his book; Vance revealed that he went on the show to engage with Americans who didn't vote for him, showcasing his commitment to reaching across the aisle. "My job as vice president of the United States is not just to talk to the people who voted for me, it's to talk to the people who didn't vote for me too," he emphasized.
Vance's approach to conversation is rooted in optimism, believing that most people, even those with differing views, are open to dialogue. "It may be the optimist in me, but I just fundamentally think that most people — not everybody, but most people — even if I disagree with them, you ought to try to have a conversation with them," he told Fox News on Monday.
The conversation on "The View" quickly turned heated, with co-hosts like Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin attempting to draw Vance into a contentious discussion. Whoopi asked pointedly, "What did black people do to this administration to make you stigmatize folks of color?"
Vance stood firm, countering with facts about crime rates in Washington, DC. "Look at Washington, DC, one of the most democratic and one of the blackest by share of population cities, has seen a radical decrease in violent crime and sexual assault and murders," he said, highlighting the administration's focus on public safety.
The exchange didn't always go smoothly for the show's hosts. When Whoopi pressed Vance about the removal of black heroes, he sought clarity, asking, "What exactly are you talking about, Whoopi? I want to respond to your actual point." The question left Whoopi stumbling, unable to articulate a clear response.
