TRUMP DECLARES WAR ON THE FED: Renovation Scandal EXPLODES!

TRUMP DECLARES WAR ON THE FED: Renovation Scandal EXPLODES!

President Trump, speaking from Florida, expressed a firm desire to understand the escalating costs surrounding the Federal Reserve’s building project. He questioned how a project he believed he could complete for $25 million ballooned to a staggering $4 billion, framing it as a critical issue demanding answers.

The President’s comments came shortly after U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro directed her office to close its initial investigation, transferring oversight to the Federal Reserve’s Inspector General, Michael Horowitz. Trump praised Pirro’s work, emphasizing his obligation to uncover the truth, even though the project’s origins lay during the previous administration.

The Federal Reserve maintains the budget overrun – from an approved $2.46 billion – stemmed from unforeseen complications, including the discovery of more asbestos than anticipated and rising construction costs. However, Trump remained skeptical, highlighting the disparity between his own building experiences and the Fed’s expenditures.

The investigation initially focused on statements made by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to Congress regarding the renovation’s management. Powell himself characterized the Department of Justice’s inquiry as an unprecedented attempt at “intimidation,” seemingly aimed at influencing interest rate policy.

This investigation unfolded against a backdrop of increasing tension between Trump and Powell, with the President repeatedly criticizing Powell’s handling of interest rates and publicly demanding immediate cuts. The strained relationship extended to a contested nomination process for Powell’s replacement, Kevin Warsh.

Senator Thom Tillis had previously vowed to block Warsh’s confirmation, arguing the DOJ’s investigation was politically motivated and threatened market stability. He accused Pirro of seeking favor with Trump by initiating the probe, a sentiment that underscored the high stakes surrounding the investigation.

With Pirro’s office stepping back, the path appears clearer for Warsh’s confirmation. However, Trump insisted the core issue – the exorbitant building costs – must be resolved, not just for this project, but to prevent similar overruns in future endeavors.

Trump pointed to his own experience with the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., suggesting building hotels is inherently less expensive than office buildings. He stressed the need for accountability, believing this case represents the most glaring example of wasteful spending.

Ultimately, the President framed his pursuit of answers as a matter of national importance. He believes uncovering the truth behind the Fed’s building costs will safeguard future projects and ensure responsible use of taxpayer dollars, regardless of who leads the Federal Reserve.

Michael Horowitz, now tasked with the investigation, has a long history as a government watchdog, earning both praise and criticism throughout his tenure as DOJ Inspector General. His appointment signals a shift towards a more traditional oversight approach.
