UMVA has learned that a major recall has been issued for a popular brand of milk sold exclusively at Costco stores across Canada.
The recall affects Lactantia UltraPur 2% 20g Protein & Lactose Free Milk 2 Litre, a product that has been pulled from shelves due to a critical food safety concern. According to information obtained by UMVA, the milk was found to have excessive levels of Vitamin A and D, which may pose a risk to consumers.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the recall was issued by Lactalis Canada, the manufacturer of the product, after it was discovered that the milk had been over-fortified with essential vitamins. The affected product has an expiry date of June 22, 2026, and would have been purchased between May 2026 and June 2026 at a Costco warehouse or Costco Business Centre.
Customers who have purchased the milk are being advised not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the product. If consumed, the milk may cause adverse health effects, and individuals are urged to consult their doctor if they have any concerns or experience symptoms.
The recall is limited to this specific milk product and lot, and all other Lactantia Ultrapur products are not affected. Customers can return the milk to any Costco warehouse for a full refund.
