UMVA has learned that a harrowing tale of technological woe has befallen a tech enthusiast who dared to install beta AirPods firmware on their trusty earbuds.
The adventurous individual, eager to test the latest audio features, hastily downloaded the update and waited for it to install on their AirPods. But little did they know, their excitement would soon turn to dismay as the installation process rendered their AirPods Pro 3 useless.
The process seemed to be going smoothly at first, with the AirPods banner in the iPhone's Settings app persisting while the earbuds were idle. But then, disaster struck: the banner disappeared, and the case's battery percentage vanished from the phone's Battery widget.
As the minutes ticked by, the individual waited in vain for the case's LED indicator to flash, but it remained dark. The Find My app couldn't locate or ping the case anymore, and attempts to reset the AirPods were met with silence.
The AirPods' charging case was completely dead, and a day later, the earbuds themselves ran out of power and died. Two possible explanations came to mind: either the update was successfully installed, but the system glitched while the case rebooted, or a glitch occurred during the installation process, permanently bricking the case.
With no physical restart button to override the frozen software, the individual was forced to let the case's battery drain completely and then recharge it to force its software to restart. After five days of uncertainty, they tried to charge the case, and to their surprise, their iPhone notified them that the AirPods had been detected nearby.
As the AirPods sprang back to life, the individual breathed a sigh of relief: the update had completed installation before the software glitch, and once they were fully charged, their AirPods were fully operational again. A valuable lesson was learned: if you run into trouble with beta AirPods firmware, don't panic – try letting their batteries drain fully and then recharge them.
