A furious barrage of accusations erupted Sunday night as former President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing attack on U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, leveling charges of deep-seated bias and demanding his removal from any case involving the GOP or his administration.
Trump’s statement, delivered via a social media platform, painted a picture of Boasberg as a judge consumed by animosity – “Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control,” he wrote, alleging a condition he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome” had fueled years of targeted hostility.
The former president didn’t hold back, claiming Boasberg consistently demonstrated “open, flagrant, and extreme partisan bias and contempt” towards Republicans and his administration, insisting such behavior demanded not only removal from relevant cases but also “serious disciplinary action.”
Trump specifically cited a case involving Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve, arguing Boasberg’s rulings were driven by political motivations rather than legal principles, suggesting a deliberate attempt to influence Powell’s position.
Boasberg, currently serving as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, remained silent in response to the accusations, his chambers declining to offer any comment.
This isn’t an isolated incident; Trump has repeatedly and publicly criticized Boasberg, and the latest outburst followed a recent ruling in a case concerning subpoenas issued to the Federal Reserve Board.
The judge’s opinion in that case directly questioned the motives behind the subpoenas, finding “abundant evidence” they were intended to “harass and pressure” Powell, either to comply with the former president’s wishes or to step down and allow for a more amenable replacement.
Boasberg’s ruling underscored a critical point: the government presented no evidence of any wrongdoing by Powell beyond “displeasing the President,” leading the judge to conclude the asserted justifications for the subpoenas were merely a “pretext.”
The judge ultimately granted a motion to quash the subpoenas, effectively halting the inquiry, and further fueling Trump’s accusations of politically motivated judicial overreach.
Trump concluded his statement with a stark assertion: Boasberg, in his view, embodies everything a judge should not be, and should prioritize “Justice and Fairness” over any perceived “Political Agenda.”
