For the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, the equation is brutally simple: win, and secure their place. A victory against the reigning champion National University Lady Bulldogs guarantees the fourth seed and avoids a nerve-wracking playoff for a spot in the semifinals.
However, the path isn’t clear-cut. The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws are lurking, needing a win against Ateneo de Manila University and a UST loss to force a sudden-death showdown for the final Final Four berth.
The women’s competition has already witnessed history. De La Salle University completed a stunning 14-0 sweep of the elimination round, a feat not seen since 2014 and only matched in the league by National University’s dominant 2022 run led by the iconic Bella Belen.
National University and Adamson University have already secured their semifinal spots, but the battle for second place remains fiercely contested. Adamson eyes a potential tie with NU, contingent on an upset victory by UST.
Even with a win, UST faces a challenging path. A three-way tie at 9-5 with NU and Adamson would leave the Golden Tigresses facing the loser of the battle for the No. 2 seed in the opening round of the stepladder tournament.
