A new era of commuting is on the horizon for Cavite province. A significant transportation project, spearheaded by Megawide Construction Corp. and Maplecrest Group, Inc., is poised to dramatically reshape how residents travel.
Initial phases of the P1.87-billion Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system are now targeted for a May launch, promising a faster, more efficient route for thousands. This isn’t just about building roads; it’s about connecting communities and unlocking economic potential.
The ambitious project aims to serve a wide swath of Cavite, including Imus, General Trias, Tanza, Kawit, and Trece Martires. Crucially, the BRT will establish a vital link to Metro Manila via the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), easing congestion and expanding opportunities.
Early projections estimate nearly 5,000 passengers will utilize the initial point-to-point (P2P) service between Imus and One Ayala in Makati City. Ten buses will be deployed to meet this anticipated demand, marking the first step in a phased rollout.
While the full BRT system, encompassing 47 stations and three terminals, is slated for completion by year’s end, the May launch represents a crucial milestone. It signifies a tangible improvement in public transportation for a region long seeking relief from traffic bottlenecks.
The path to this launch wasn’t without its hurdles. Initial plans for partial operations last year faced minor delays, primarily related to navigating the complexities of franchise approvals with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). The unique nature of the BRT system required extensive discussion and collaboration.
This project builds upon Megawide’s existing expertise in integrated transport hubs. The company previously secured a 35-year contract in 2015 to construct and operate PITX, a major multimodal terminal, and is currently developing a similar facility in Baguio City.
The Cavite BRT isn’t simply a construction project; it’s a carefully planned system designed to address the growing transportation needs of a rapidly developing province. It represents a significant investment in the future mobility of Cavite’s residents.
