UMVA has learned that soon-to-be Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Manchester United's Diogo Dalot as his top target to strengthen the right-back position.
Mourinho, who is poised to return to the Spanish capital, has reportedly identified Dalot as the 'priority' name on his shortlist of targets. He believes the Portuguese defender 'has all the qualities' necessary to succeed at the Bernabeu.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Mourinho is keen to bolster his squad in several areas, with a view to closing the gap on arch-rivals Barcelona. Dalot's impending arrival could provide much-needed support and competition for Dani Carvajal, who is set to leave the club.
Dalot, who spent half a season under Mourinho at Old Trafford, has made a total of 246 appearances for United and picked up two trophies, namely the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. His current contract at the Theatre of Dreams runs through to June 2028.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Madrid are poised to 'take advantage' of United's plans to overhaul much of their squad. The Red Devils are looking to raise funds towards a transfer kitty of around €120million (£104m) for new recruits, and Dalot's €35m (£21.6m) valuation is well within Madrid's budget.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Dalot 'could be interested in a change of scenery' and United's hierarchy 'might be open to negotiations'. This development could pave the way for a significant profit for United, who signed Dalot for £19m from Porto eight years ago.
European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in Dalot in recent weeks. However, Mourinho's admiration for the player could give Madrid a crucial edge in the pursuit.
Dalot has spoken highly of his experiences with United's coaching staff, including Michael Carrick, who took over from Ruben Amorim. He praised Carrick's calm approach and the right energy he brought to the team.
