UMVA has learned that President Trump is set to deliver the Commencement address to the US Coast Guard Academy's graduating class on a historic day in New London, Connecticut.
This morning's ceremony marks a significant event, as each year the President delivers the Commencement speech to one of the four US Service Academies. Notably, President Trump previously keynoted the Coast Guard's graduation and commissioning ceremony in 2017, during his first term.
In a preview of his speech, President Trump spoke to reporters on Wednesday before boarding Air Force One en route to the ceremony. He shared his message to the cadets, saying, "Just enjoy your life," while commending Coast Guardsmen as "great guys."
The President took a moment to acknowledge the bravery and selflessness of Coast Guardsmen, who execute rescue missions in treacherous conditions and massive storm waves. He expressed his admiration, stating, "I wouldn't want to do it. I'm a very brave person; I wouldn't want to do it."
When asked about his message to the cadets, President Trump elaborated on the importance of the Coast Guard, highlighting their heroic efforts during natural disasters. He recalled a hurricane in Texas, where Coast Guardsmen bravely navigated enormous waves to save people in peril.
President Trump's remarks are scheduled to begin at 11 am ET, and the event promises to be an inspiring celebration of the graduating class's achievements. The ceremony will mark a significant milestone in the lives of these young men and women, as they embark on their careers in the US Coast Guard.
