According to a recent report, a ransom demand recipient has been told by some investigators that the demands are potentially "more legitimate than not."
An unnamed official reportedly shared this information, stating that it is more likely than not that the two ransom notes are real. This view contradicts recent claims that the FBI deemed all of the ransom demands in the Guthrie investigation inauthentic. Some investigators remain cautious, citing the unknown whereabouts of Guthrie as a reason to question the authenticity of the demands.
Guthrie's daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has expressed her belief that at least two of the notes could be real. She and her siblings responded to these notes on videos posted to her Instagram in February. Meanwhile, state and local authorities have declined to discuss the latest developments regarding the ransom demands publicly.
FBI Director Kash Patel was questioned about the new reporting at a news briefing, but chose not to comment on the matter. "We are continuing to assist that investigation. We've always been in an assist role. It's a state matter being led by the state authorities," he said. The Pima County Sheriff's agency, which is leading the investigation, has confirmed that all ransom notes are being handled by the FBI.
