Declan Rice is eager to rejoin Arsenal’s pre‑season program after a difficult World Cup campaign that saw him suffer a calf injury and a later neural issue affecting his hamstring and lower back.
The midfielder limped out of England’s opening group match against Ghana and was unable to play for three days before returning for the quarter‑final victory over Norway. He was later substituted midway through the semi‑final against Argentina but finished the bronze‑medal match, opening the scoreline with a goal in the third minute.
Concerns about a prolonged break to avoid aggravating underlying problems have circulated, but Arsenal’s manager confirmed that discussions with Rice indicate he is ready to return soon.

“When I speak to Declan Rice, he is already saying, ‘If I come this day, then I can play then,’” Arteta said, emphasizing a flexible approach to the player’s fitness plan.
Arteta praised the team’s energy and cohesion during a training camp in Italy, noting the players’ improved shape and the positive culture they are cultivating.
He stressed the importance of maintaining a standard of excellence, stating that the club’s ambition is to raise its level and push the team into a new dimension.

The Gunners will face Girona this weekend before a friendly against Real Betis at Aviva Stadium. They will then return to the Emirates for matches against Borussia Dortmund and Como, concluding the pre‑season with a Community Shield encounter against Manchester City on August 16.
Arsenal’s Premier League defence starts five days later at home to newly promoted Coventry City, marking the beginning of a new campaign for the club.
