UMVA has learned that former Kentucky congressman Thomas Massie, fresh from a stunning primary defeat, has quietly filed paperwork for a 2028 House race, keeping the door ajar for a political comeback.
Massie announced the filing on his social platform, explaining that the move allows him to raise funds and maintain a political operation that could support either his current role or a future federal bid. He hinted that the decision on which office to pursue remains unsettled.
At a University of Louisville College Republicans gathering, the firebrand lawmaker warned that a loss on May 19 would drive him out of government forever, a statement that sent ripples through the crowd.
Yet, in a later statement, Massie emphasized that he is “keeping every option open,” and revealed the existence of a covert paid‑social‑media campaign aimed at reshaping the narrative surrounding his defeat, insisting he will not fade away silently.
The primary loss came at the hands of former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, who secured a decisive victory and unseated Massie, a congressman who had served since 2012.
Massie dismissed any claims of election fraud, stating he sees no evidence of tampered votes, mail‑in irregularities, or hacking, and he has no intention of requesting a recount.
When pressed about a possible 2028 presidential run, Massie replied, “I will not rule out anything. And right now I’m not gonna rule in anything,” adding that he plans to stay engaged, perhaps from the outside, continuing his long‑standing critique of Washington.
