A chilling series of events unfolded in Mississauga, beginning with a pre-dawn fire at an unoccupied business on March 16th. Emergency crews responded to the scene near Winston Churchill Blvd. and Argentia Rd., but the individuals responsible had already vanished into the darkness.
The initial fire was not an isolated incident. Investigators discovered two subsequent attempts to set fires at the same location, escalating the danger and suggesting a deliberate pattern of malicious intent.
Police have made one arrest in connection with the arsons, identifying 19-year-old Kevin Pardes of Ottawa. He faces multiple charges, including arson, break and enter, and possession of stolen property.
However, a second suspect remains at large. Authorities have released a description of the individual, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, with a fair complexion, slim build, and dark eyes.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect wearing a black tuque, a black puffer jacket, black jeans, and black Nike Air Force shoes. The search continues as investigators seek any information that could lead to his capture.
Meanwhile, in Oshawa, a Saturday shooting sent two men to hospital with serious injuries. The first victim presented himself at a hospital with a gunshot wound, while the second was discovered at a residence after police investigated a damaged vehicle.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Court and Bruce Sts., quickly discovering the unfolding situation. Both victims were subsequently transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre, their conditions deemed serious but not life-threatening.
Durham Regional Police are actively pursuing two suspects in connection with the Oshawa shooting, meticulously gathering evidence and following leads to bring those responsible to justice.
Adding to the wave of criminal activity, Oshawa convenience stores were targeted in a pair of armed robberies. The first incident occurred on April 14th at Oshawa Grand Convenience, where a man brandishing a firearm demanded cash from an employee.
The following day, a similar robbery took place at One Stop Shopping Convenience. This time, the suspect threatened an employee with a knife, even slashing at the employee who attempted to defend himself with a chair. Lottery tickets were stolen, and the victim sustained minor injuries.
Police have identified Nicholas David Burr, 36, as the suspect in these robberies. He is wanted for a range of offenses, including robbery with a firearm, assault with a weapon, and possession of stolen property.
These separate incidents paint a disturbing picture of escalating crime across the region, prompting increased police presence and a determined effort to restore public safety.
