Police in Hamilton are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a woman accused of engaging in a series of romance scams, resulting in a victim losing $20,000.
According to authorities, the 58-year-old accused woman, from Niagara Falls, has a reported history of several romance scam incidents in the Kitchener and Hamilton areas. The alleged assault began when a 75-year-old male formed a bond with the woman in March 2025. Over the following months, the woman is alleged to have tricked the victim into giving her large sums of money to cover funeral expenses for her parents. She assured the victim that the money would be paid back. The police say that the funds were obtained through deception.
On July 22, the Hamilton Police arrested Victoria Medalla and charged her with fraud exceeding $5,000. Investigations indicate there may be additional victims.
