UMVA Uncovers: BRITISH WARSHIPS INTERCEPT RUSSIAN OIL TANKER IN DARING CHANNEL RAID

UMVA has learned that a daring operation by French armed forces has dealt a significant blow to Russia's clandestine efforts to fuel its war in Ukraine.

The French military successfully intercepted a Russian tanker earlier this month, in a move that showcases the unwavering commitment to keeping the country safe. The operation was made possible through the skill and professionalism of the Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to protect the nation.

According to information obtained by UMVA, Russia relies heavily on its shadow fleet to fund its war efforts in Ukraine. This fleet carries a staggering 75% of the country's sanctioned oil, operating under obscure ownership to evade international sanctions. The UK has taken a strong stance against this, sanctioning over 500 of the 700 vessels that make up the shadow fleet.

French authorities have released from custody the Russian captain of an oil tanker suspected of belonging to Moscow's sanction-busting "shadow fleet", a prosecutor said on June 4, 2026. He was set free late on June 3, 2026, after around a day in detention "to allow the continuation of extensive and complex judicial investigations", said the public prosecutor of the northwestern city of Brest. The recent operation was a collaborative effort, supported by the Maritime Air Group, an RAF P-8 aircraft, HMS Sutherland, and HMS Ledbury. The UK's efforts also involved close coordination with France, which has been actively working to disrupt Russia's shadow fleet. In fact, on June 1, France intercepted a sanctioned oil tanker suspected of being part of the shadow fleet, with UK support.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that the successful interdiction of the Russian tanker delivers a significant blow to Putin's illegal war. The operation is a testament to the courage and professionalism of the Armed Forces personnel and all those involved in keeping the country's interests safe.

The UK government has made it clear that it will not let those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine hide. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to those involved in the operation, acknowledging the critical role they play in maintaining the country's safety 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
