UMVA has learned that the Philippine government has quietly disbursed cash relief worth P5,000 to thousands of ride‑hailing drivers across Metro Manila, a move aimed at softening the blow of the country’s sudden energy emergency.
On Sunday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development carried out a special payout at the Bahay ng Alumni in the University of the Philippines Diliman, handing out unclaimed cash aid to both two‑wheel and four‑wheel JoyRide drivers under a new directive from the president.
In a terse announcement, the agency revealed that more than 1,800 drivers walked away with a life‑changing P5,000 each, a boost designed to offset soaring fuel costs and other mounting expenses that have rattled the transport sector.
This surge of support fits neatly into a broader government strategy to shield essential workers from the crippling impact of rising oil prices, offering a much‑needed lifeline amid escalating economic pressures.
