CHINA COLLUSION? Senator Wants to HAND Climate Control to Beijing!

A Maine Senate candidate is challenging conventional wisdom, advocating for a dramatically different approach to U.S.-China relations. Graham Platner, a Democrat, believes cooperation, not confrontation, should define America’s strategy with the global power, particularly on issues like climate change.

During a recent livestream, Platner dismissed an aggressive stance toward Beijing as “absurd,” pointing to the deeply intertwined economic relationship between the two nations. He explicitly stated he is “not a China hawk,” positioning himself far to the left of many within his own party who view China as a major strategic threat.

Platner frames the most pressing global challenges as a dual threat: the resurgence of fascism and the escalating climate crisis. He suggests that addressing climate change requires a collaborative effort, even with nations holding vastly different political ideologies.

The candidate’s views extend beyond foreign policy, encompassing sharp criticism of domestic law enforcement. He has referred to federal immigration officers as “armed thugs,” making accusations of violence against American citizens during recent enforcement operations.

He has also been a vocal advocate for dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and compelling its agents to publicly account for their actions before Congress. These positions have fueled a contentious primary battle within the Maine Democratic Party.

Platner is currently challenging Maine’s Governor Janet Mills for the Democratic nomination. Despite being a political newcomer, he has garnered endorsements from prominent progressives like Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

These endorsements have persisted even amidst scrutiny over past controversial online statements and the revelation of a now-removed tattoo with Nazi associations. The support from Sanders and Warren signals a willingness to embrace a candidate pushing the boundaries of mainstream Democratic thought.

Beyond his stance on China and immigration, Platner has called for significant changes within the Democratic Party itself. He has openly questioned the leadership of Senator Chuck Schumer and advocated for weakening the filibuster and expanding the Supreme Court.

Recent polling indicates Platner has taken a surprising lead in the primary race, despite Mills’ established position as the state’s highest-ranking Democrat. The Senate race is currently considered a toss-up, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal contest in November.

The election will test whether Maine voters are receptive to Platner’s unconventional platform and willingness to challenge established political norms. His candidacy represents a significant departure from traditional approaches to both foreign and domestic policy.
