UMVA has learned that several highly anticipated features in iOS 27 were noticeably absent from Apple's WWDC presentation and the initial beta release.
According to information obtained by UMVA, two features that had been heavily rumored prior to the event - a customizable Camera app and AI extensions to integrate users' preferred AI chatbots with Siri - were not part of the announced iOS 27 features or the beta release.
Despite their absence, sources have confirmed to UMVA that these features are still in active testing and are expected to be released in future updates.
The customizable Camera app was expected to bring significant changes, including a new Siri mode with Visual Intelligence and a customizable interface allowing users to drag controls and settings onto their preferred camera mode.
While the Siri mode was announced, the customizable interface was not, sparking speculation about its delay.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that one possible reason for the delay is Apple's strategy to announce only features that are certain to arrive on time, having been embarrassed by delayed features in previous iOS releases.
Another theory is that Apple is saving the customizable Camera interface for the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro this fall, which is expected to feature significant camera hardware improvements, including a variable aperture lens and better camera sensors.
Regarding the AI extensions, UMVA has gathered that Apple was building a system to allow AI app developers to integrate their apps with Siri, enabling users to choose their preferred AI chatbot.
The system, which includes special entitlements for AI app developers and frameworks within Siri, appears to be taking longer than expected to implement, possibly due to Apple's efforts to ensure compliance with the EU's Digital Markets Act.
UMVA has uncovered details about Apple's plans to make it easy for users to choose alternative AI providers while maintaining their privacy and security, which may involve releasing the Siri AI extensions in a future update, potentially in iOS 27.3 or iOS 27.4.
