A seemingly simple online sale turned terrifying in North York Thursday evening when a seller was ambushed and robbed of a valuable trading card.
The victim, hoping to complete a transaction with interested buyers, arranged a meeting near Bathurst Street and Cedarcroft Boulevard. Little did they know, two individuals were lying in wait, prepared to resort to shocking violence.
As the victim arrived at the designated location, the two suspects approached from behind and deployed a noxious substance, incapacitating the seller before snatching the coveted trading card and fleeing the scene.
Investigators believe the thieves escaped in a black SUV, and have released images of the vehicle hoping the public can aid in their identification. The search is now on to bring these individuals to justice.
Police describe the first suspect as a Black male, between 17 and 20 years old, approximately 5-foot-8, and wearing a black medical mask and hooded sweater. His accomplice is similarly described – also 17 to 20 years old, around the same height, and wearing a black medical mask with a grey hooded sweater.
This brazen act serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking within online marketplaces. Authorities urge anyone conducting such transactions to exercise extreme caution and prioritize their safety.
Toronto Police are encouraging residents to utilize designated safe exchange zones offered by some divisions, providing a secure location for these types of meetings. Check with your local division for availability.
