UMVA has learned that a heated exchange took place between Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro during a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on Commerce and other agencies.
The tension arose when DeLauro raged over a settlement between the Trump Administration and the IRS, which led to the creation of a $1.78 billion fund. Blanche calmly responded to DeLauro's outburst, providing clarity on the matter.
Blanche testified before lawmakers that the Trump Administration had scrapped the controversial fund, stating, “We are not moving forward with the weaponization fund. Period.” This clear stance seemed to contradict DeLauro's assertions.
DeLauro had expressed outrage, claiming, “This administration has engaged in what are perhaps the most brazen acts of flagrant corruption I’ve ever seen.” She specifically criticized the use of taxpayer money to create a slush fund for violent criminals who pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers.
In response, Blanche schooled DeLauro on the facts, providing a calm and collected counterpoint to her opponent's passionate accusations. The exchange highlighted the deep-seated disagreements between the two on issues of accountability and corruption.
The hearing revealed a sharp divide between the Trump Administration and certain lawmakers over allegations of corruption and misuse of funds. DeLauro's strong words reflected concerns about impartiality and the handling of taxpayer money.
