DAYCARE KILLER: Monster Behind the Wheel Now Officially a THREAT!

DAYCARE KILLER: Monster Behind the Wheel Now Officially a THREAT!

The man responsible for driving a bus into a Laval daycare, claiming the lives of two young children and injuring others, has been designated a high-risk accused. This ruling dramatically alters his potential path, suggesting a far longer period of detention than a standard finding of not criminally responsible would allow.

Justice Éric Downs delivered the somber verdict Monday, stating the Crown convincingly demonstrated that Pierre Ny St-Amand, 54, continues to pose a threat to public safety. The decision followed extensive hearings, meticulously laid out in a 103-page document, and marked a definitive conclusion to this harrowing chapter.

Last year, St-Amand was found not criminally responsible for the deaths of five-year-old Maëva and four-year-old Jacob Gauthier. The unimaginable occurred when he deliberately steered the bus into the Ste-Rose daycare, shattering the lives of those inside.

The facade of a daycare centre is boarded up after a fatal bus crash in which children died in Laval, Feb. 9, 2023.

Due to a publication ban, the identity of another victim lost in the tragedy is protected, adding another layer of grief and sensitivity to the case. The weight of this loss continues to resonate deeply within the community.

The “high-risk accused” designation, a specific term within the Criminal Code, significantly complicates any future possibility of release from the Philippe Pinel Institute, the psychiatric facility where St-Amand has been held since being deemed not criminally responsible. This ruling prioritizes public safety above all else.

This designation means a more rigorous and prolonged evaluation process will be required before any consideration is given to St-Amand’s potential reintegration into society. The focus remains firmly on protecting the public from any future harm.

The judge’s final words – “That ends this affair” – offered a small measure of closure, yet the pain and trauma inflicted on the families and the community will undoubtedly endure for years to come.
