UMVA has learned that a tragic shooting in downtown Toronto has claimed a life and left a suspect in custody, sending shockwaves through the city.
At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, police raced to an apartment on Jarvis and Dundas Streets after reports of gunfire. Inside, they discovered a woman with severe, unspecified injuries that would ultimately prove fatal.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that emergency responders rushed her to a hospital, where she succumbed to her wounds later that day. The Homicide Unit has since taken over the case, and a male suspect has been arrested.
In a separate, chilling incident, Brampton residents were warned after a 34‑year‑old man was apprehended for a series of ATM robberies that spanned March to June. Police say the suspect stalked victims inside bank vaults, striking them after cash withdrawals and stealing the money.
The man, identified as Sureshkumaran Rajaputhiran, faces three robbery charges and will appear before a bail hearing. Authorities urge the public to stay vigilant, especially when using ATMs.
Meanwhile, a quiet household in Barrie's north end became the scene of a double homicide. During a routine wellness check, officers found a man and woman lying dead in a residence on St. Vincent Street and Osprey Ridge Road.
Investigators believe the victims knew each other and that the incident is isolated. Police maintain a presence in the area as they dig deeper into the circumstances.
Night brought more gunfire to Toronto’s streets. At 1:45 a.m. in Rexdale, shots rang out near a park on Jamestown Crescent and John Garland Boulevard, leaving evidence of a firearm discharge and injuries on a nearby resident.
Less than three hours later, downtown’s Baldwin and Beverley Streets echoed with gunshots at 4:24 a.m., damaging a home and injuring another occupant. Both cases remain under active investigation.
These incidents underscore a growing wave of violence that has rattled communities across the region, prompting police to call on citizens to report any information that could help bring perpetrators to justice.
