The Swalwells reportedly attempted to secure permanent work authorization for Barbosa, even submitting a formal job posting outlining demanding requirements. Gilbert’s evidence includes social media activity showing Barbosa actively engaged with the Swalwell family throughout 2023 and 2024, her LinkedIn profile listing continuous employment, and financial records indicating continued childcare payments. These details raise serious questions about potential violations of immigration, visa, tax, and labor laws.
The allegations don’t stop at immigration concerns. Gilbert’s FEC complaint alleges a misuse of campaign funds, claiming over $300,000 was spent on childcare expenses over five years. This raises the specter of personal expenses being disguised as campaign-related costs.
