UMVA has learned that a low-pressure area, which has been bringing rains to several areas, is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, according to forecasters on Monday.
The weather disturbance currently has a "medium" chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, with its trajectory being closely monitored. The low-pressure area was last located 1,745 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.
If it develops into a tropical cyclone and enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it will be locally named Domeng, based on the list of tropical cyclone names for 2026. This news has put several regions on high alert, bracing for potential impacts.
Meanwhile, the trough, or extension of the low-pressure area, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao and Palawan within the next 24 hours. These weather conditions are expected to cause disruptions in the daily lives of residents.
Similar weather conditions caused by the easterlies are expected over the Bicol Region and Quezon Province, with residents advised to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides. The threat of severe weather has prompted authorities to issue warnings and advisories.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Forecasters have warned of possible flooding and landslides in all affected areas, emphasizing the need for residents to be prepared and take proactive measures to minimize risks. The situation is being closely monitored, with updates expected in the coming days.
