MANILA WATER'S MEGA-PROJECT: WORLD RECOGNITION IMMINENT!

MANILA WATER'S MEGA-PROJECT: WORLD RECOGNITION IMMINENT!

A monumental undertaking to secure water for millions is gaining international attention. The P26-billion Upper Wawa Dam project, designed to bolster the water supply of Metro Manila and surrounding areas, has been shortlisted for a prestigious global award.

The Global Water Awards, hosted by industry authority Global Water Intelligence, recognize projects that represent genuine breakthroughs in addressing the world’s escalating water challenges. This shortlisting places Upper Wawa Dam among the most impactful water initiatives worldwide, judged by a panel of international experts.

This isn’t simply about building a dam; it’s about future-proofing a region. The Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project, of which Upper Wawa Dam is a critical component, is poised to deliver up to 710 million liters of water daily – the largest such capacity added in the Philippines in over half a century.

Scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, the project will directly benefit approximately 3.5 million people. Crucially, it’s designed to lessen the overwhelming dependence on the Angat Dam, a vital but increasingly strained resource for the entire metropolitan area.

The significance extends beyond immediate supply. The project embodies a shift towards sustainable, long-term solutions for water security, flood mitigation, and resilience against the growing impacts of climate change in rapidly developing urban centers.

This recognition arrives after Manila Water finalized the full acquisition of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project last year, a P37.8-billion investment signaling a firm commitment to long-term water management for the region. It’s a testament to the power of strategic infrastructure development.

Being recognized alongside other leading international projects highlights the Philippines’ growing role in pioneering innovative and impactful water solutions. This project isn’t just about water; it’s about building a more secure and sustainable future.
