UMVA has learned that a devastating business jet crash occurred on a Texas highway late Tuesday night, resulting in a fiery inferno that claimed the life of one person.
The plane, a Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet, was carrying six people when it crashed on Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas, shortly after 10 p.m., sending shockwaves through the community. The impact was so severe that it struck a vehicle, although it's unclear if the victim was on board or on the ground.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the conditions of those aboard the plane remain unknown, and authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The scene was chaotic, with video footage showing the plane lying on its side, smashed into a highway barrier, and its tail ripped from the fuselage.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but five officers were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, highlighting the treacherous conditions. Loop 20 was immediately closed, and authorities warned that it would remain shut into Wednesday morning as they continued their investigation.
NetJets, the company that owned the plane, confirmed that the crash involved one of its aircraft and pledged to cooperate fully with authorities. As the investigation unfolds, many questions remain unanswered, including what led to the catastrophic failure of the plane as it approached Laredo, a city located about 140 miles southwest of San Antonio.
